As summer rolls on, so do my random cocktail creations. This one was borne out of having too many bottles of Jack Daniels in the house. How can anyone have too many bottles of JD? You may ask but… it is possible. We like bourbon, but only occasionally indulge in it outside of our trips to Nashville and Memphis.
This is a pretty simple cocktail at it’s core: bourbon, cider and mixer to make it a long drink. One to drink with friends whilst sat in the garden, putting together an cheap limbo set. Or to ease the pain of assembling countless paper decorations for centrepieces (I’ve done both!).

There was no direct piece of inspiration for this. The first time I made it, it was after I’d added some JD to a chilli and left the bottle on the counter absolutely months ago. We’re talking 2015 here. I opened a bottle of cider, took a swig and it was not a nice one. It’d come from some variety multi-pack I won’t name but… yeah. I didn’t like it.

But when does something like that deter someone like me?
It was too dry, so I added lemonade to sweeten.
There was bourbon on the counter, so I sloshed a bit of that in to round things off. Hey presto! My first Jack Daniels & cider cocktail was alive! From there, it was just a small hop and short step to fine-tuning the amounts (“slosh” is great for making things at home, but I thought ya’ll might prefer something a bit more exact!)

No dried apple? No problem!
The dried apple is there more like a cheeky snack than anything else, to be honest. Totally optional but also a very nice little nibble if you have some around.

I drink it all year but I can totally vouch for it as an autumn drink too! Enjoy the game!
Looks and sounds awesome!! perfect for a game night or saturday night in
Great idea! x
I love how simple this drink is!! Perfect to make it at home!!
I’m ALL about simple cocktails 99% of the time when I’m at home. None of this blending and shaking and complicatedness. Just alcohol + flavour + mixer generally 😀
Ooh yum! I”m in, and I loved the dried apple!
Hehe, yay!
I’m always a huge fan of seasonal cocktails and the second September comes around, I’ll be trying this one!
Thanks! It is a great one for autumn – sometimes I like to add just a sprinkle of cinnamon too 😉
Hi Luci, I know this is an old post so I hope you get this. My name is George I’m in the U.S. I really enjoy your recipe for Jack Daniels cider cocktail, really. I’m a JD lover. In fact I am an official card carrying Jack Daniels Tennessee Squire since 1997, really I am. If you send an email address I can send you a picture of the certificate if you like.
It’s quite a coincidence for me to come across your recipe today because I just dropped my neighbor at the airport yesterday 10/16/17. She’s headed to England to see her favorite soccer team Chelsea. She’s quite a fan. She even spent a year there as a teacher as part of an exchange program. Our local team here in Indianapolis, named Indy 11 isn’t doing well but she’s still a fan.
Anyway, do you have any more I’D recipes you’d like to share? Just drop me a line.
