Starbucks Vegan Drinks

Starbucks vegan drinks

I started going to Starbucks when I was about… fifteen years old, I think. I was introduced to the Caramel Macchiato and I never looked back. I used to get a Venti, with an extra shot! These days, I’m more of a decaf girl but that, my friends, was the start of it all.

Last updated: January 2019. I used all three sources that Starbucks make publicly available to make this list (I found the allergen menu a bit confusing on its own, personally).

Vegan syrups at Starbucks

Unlike at Costa, not all the syrups are okay. Ones like Butterscotch aren’t suitable for vegans, however, there’s still a good number that you can get to jazz up or hack your vegan Starbucks drinks:

  • Chocolate drizzle
  • Mocha Cookie Crumble
  • Pumpkin Spice Topping
  • Strawberry Sauce
  • Vanilla Sugar

Vegan Starbucks Secret Menu!

I used to love to try and order things from the secret menu before giving up dairy, and that’s not changed. 9/10 I still chicken out of it, but I always have an idea in mind and occasionally, if they’re quiet, I’ll be brave! Have you tried any of these from the infamous (vegan) Starbucks secret menu?

All the syrup amounts below are based on a tall drink, which generally has about 2-3 pumps worth of syrup.

  • Chocolate Turtle Latte: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk latte + one pump each of mocha, caramel and toffee nut syrups
  • French vanilla cappuccino: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk cappuccino with 1 pump vanilla and 1 pump toffee nut syrups
  • London Fog: Soy/coconut/Almond milk earl grey tea misto + two pumps of vanilla syrup
  • Marzipan latte: Soy latte with almond and vanilla syrups
  • The (Vegan) Nutella: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk Café Misto with a pump of mocha syrup and a pump of hazelnut
  • Banana Cream Pie Frappuccino: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk Vanilla Crème Frappuccino + 1 pump hazelnut syrup, and a sliced banana.
  • Captain Crunch Frappuccino: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino with + one pump each hazelnut, toffee nut, and caramel syrup (instead of its regular combo)
  • Ferrero Rocher Frappuccino: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk Java Chip Frappuccino with 2 pumps mocha and 1 pump hazelnut syrup
  • Lucky Charms Frappuccino: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino+ one pump each of hazelnut, caramel and toffee nut syrups
  • Neopolitan Frappuccino: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino with one pump each of vanilla and mocha syrups
  • Strawberry Quality Street Frappuccino: Soy/Coconut/Almond milk Mocha Frappuccino with strawberry sauce

Is there any vegan food at Starbucks?

There is actually a couple of things, other than dried nuts, that you can eat as a vegan in Starbucks and it’s getting better pretty regularly. I confess I am always heading to the nearest Starbucks after a night of one too many drinks. I get an oatmeal, chop up a Nakd bar (which I pick up on the way) and pour on a little pot of jam!

  • Five Grain Oatmeal (toppings: jam, dried fruit packs, nuts)
  • Fruit Mix Pot
  • Mango & Lime Fruit Pot

Cakes, Sweets and Snacks

  • Vegan Chocolate & Raspberry Cake
  • Starbucks Peanut and Cashew Bar
  • Starbucks Almonds, Cashews, Cranberries & Raisins
  • Starbucks Dark Chocolate Bar
  • Starbucks Smoked Almonds

Sandwiches and meals

  • Vegan Winter Sandwich
  • Vegan Wrap with Falafel & Slaw

What’s my order?

My favourite vegan drink to order at Starbucks is pretty similar to my Costa Coffee one: a tall oat milk mocha, no whip.

    1. Brilliant, thanks Adam. Do all Starbucks sell them? They haven’t listed them on their Allergen Guide (apart from the chocolate bar, which is labelled as unsuitable).

    1. Hi Christine – I went and checked and there’s good news and bad news: the java chips are (currently) OK and there’s no milk listed in the ingredients. However you were right – I missed the honey in the chai tea latte, but the chai tea is OK 🙂 If you love chai tea latte, the soy one at Costa is still showing as OK.

      1. Not sure if this applies to everywhere but in Canada the Java chips are not vegan
        Here are the ingredients:
Frappuccino Chips: Confectionery Coating (Sugar, Palm Kernel And Palm Oils, Cocoa Processed With Alkali, Soy Lecithin, Vanilla, Milk)

        1. I’m based in the UK, so I can only check the stuff here. I’ll make that clearer though, thanks for the heads up 🙂

    1. I can’t find an Iced Mocha Macchiatto on the menu anywhere – just an Iced Caramel Macchiatto or an Iced Caffe Mocha? The Iced Caffe Mocha, made with a non-dairy milk and without whipped cream, still looks to be OK, and and Iced Caramel Macchiatto, made with a non-dairy milk and without caramel drizzle, looks to be OK 🙂

      1. Thank you 🙂 one of our specialty drinks made with coconut milk. I discovered after some research, the white chocolate mocha sauce is a no-go. Thank you for the response!

    1. It’s a ‘T’ which means “indicates trace amounts of allergen may be present in an ingredient” – this means if you are allergic to dairy, you shouldn’t have it.

  1. Just tried the Chocolate Turtle Latte – I was brave and went for it. I can’t believe it’s vegan -it tastes amazing!

Finding this has been a godsend 🙂

      1. the hot chocolate powder they use does have milk as i asked few weeks ago, shame. i guess they use the same for the mocha. glad i read comments about chai latte having honey, i glazed over that looking only for the milk ingredients.
